Contact Lenses are safe to wear during the coronavirus pandemic.

“Our findings indicate that contact lenses remain a perfectly acceptable form of vision correction during the coronavirus pandemic, as long as people observe good hand hygiene and follow appropriate wear-and-care directions,” said Dr Lyndon Jones, director of the Centre for Ocular Research & Education (CORE) at the University of Waterloo

Wear Contacts the Right Way

Contact lenses provide convenience and flexibility in your day to day activities such as for sports, occasional or full-time wear. They’re the perfect vision correction for the active person but are fantastic for anyone looking to reclaim their vision without glasses or surgery. However, because you’re wearing them all day, proper care and correctly fitting contacts are essential. If you’re new to contact lenses, our optometrists can assess your eyes and teach you, step-by-step, how to wear contacts and properly care for your eye’s unique needs. Contacts are a lifestyle, and understanding how they will fit into your life specifically is essential for getting the best results.

Which Contact Lens Brand should I choose?

There are many contact lens brands available and it can be overwhelming and confusing to figure out which one is the best for you. Certain brands can fit and feel different when worn, and finding the right brand when you’re beginning can be a challenge without guidance. Through a comprehensive eye test, our optometrists assess your eyes to recommend the most suitable contact lenses for you. We even offer trial contact lenses so that you can try different brands without committing! Whether it be Acuvue, Dailies, or another brand, we will find the best fit for you at Eye Philosophy.

We stock a wide range of high-quality contact lenses from all the leading brands, including:

What are the different types of Contact Lenses?

Multifocal Contact Lenses

See life with convenience

If you normally wear multifocal glasses, you can also wear multifocal contact lenses. Multifocal lenses help you see near, far, in-between – all in the one pair of contact lenses!

Multifocal contact lenses are particularly useful for those that have age-related vision changes such as presbyopia (affects close up vision). Multifocal contact lenses come in both soft and hard lens materials, allowing you to choose the ones that feel best. They offer a range of benefits, such as better visual acuity for the range of distances from near to far, a less abrupt switch between prescriptions and the ability to see in most conditions without extra eyewear.

Transition Contact Lenses

The Ideal Contact Lenses for Sports

If you exercise regularly and live an active lifestyle, you may benefit from the convenience of wearing contact lenses. Transition contact lenses (such as the Acuvue Oasys) adjust throughout the day, allowing a consistent amount of light to reach your eye whether you’re in a dark theatre or outside under the sun. They can also protect your eyes from UV rays, block excess light and help you squint less in the sun. And unlike glasses, they won’t get in your way when you’re trying to kick that goal.

Coloured Contact Lenses

Change up your eye colour.

Looking to change your style in a new way? Try our range of coloured contact lenses! Enhance your natural eye colour or go for a dramatic change with a wide range of other colour options available. Whether you’re just looking to change your look, or need contact lenses for cosplay or a costume, we can provide you with the coloured contacts you’re after.

Contact Lenses - Frequently Asked Questions

Contact Lenses Discomfort

If you’re feeling any discomfort or pain, have watering or red eyes or notice anything else unusual while wearing contacts, take the lenses out immediately. If taking out your contacts does not fix the problem, it would be wise to seek medical assistance. Contact your optometrist for further advice or visit Accidents and Emergency if the problem is serious.

Non-Prescription and Prescription Contact Lenses

We stock both prescription and non-prescription contact lenses, allowing you to get the lenses that match your vision. If you know your prescription or have been fitted for contacts before, you can order via our website to get the contacts you need.

However, if you’ve never used contact lenses before, we highly recommend you book a contact lens consultation with one of our professional optometrists. If you have Medicare, you’re eligible for a comprehensive bulk billed eye test at Eye Philosophy, where we can assess your eyes and provide you with the correct fitting contact lenses. Talk to our optometrists about getting fitted for contacts today.

What is the cost of an Initial Contact Lenses Consultation?

For a limited time to celebrate our grand opening, we are offering free contact lens trials and no out of pocket consultation fees. This is usually $149. With our expertise and knowledge, we will teach you how to wear contact lenses for the first time, find the right fit and contact lenses for your vision needs whilst protecting the health of your eyes. We can guide you through the entire Contact Lens journey.

Is it painful to wear Contact Lenses?

Contact Lenses are very comfortable to wear once you learn how to correctly insert them and ook after them.

Can Contact Lenses cause Dry Eye?

Dry Eye is a common condition that occurs when tears aren’t able to provide adequate moisture. This is a common side-effect of wearing contact lenses. We can help manage any cases of Dry Eye to make wearing contact lenses more enjoyable and comfortable. We factor in your long-term eye health as well. Visit our Dry Eye Clinic today.

What are the long-term effects of wearing Contact Lenses?

Wearing the wrong type of contact lenses can gradually cause more long term eye health issues. Your eyes may reject the contact lenses due to the lack of oxygen supplied to the nerves of the eyes.  This is not always symptomatic so you may not feel any side effects (as the nerves have numbed).

Wearing contact lenses can be more complicated than you think. Typically, it is recommended to book a contact lenses progress review every 6-12 months to ensure optimal eye health. We care about your long-term eye health, so book your review now. We believe that your vision is worth protecting – it is a truely priceless asset.

How do I get a contact lens prescription?

Start by simply Booking an Eye Test with Eye Philosophy. We are covering the cost (usually $149) of initial contact lenses consultations for a limited time. We are committed to teaching you how to wear contact lenses properly with good hygeine. We will guide you through every step of the journey.

How do I get started?

First, you need to book a Comprehensive Eye Test with one of our experienced optometrists to examine your eye health, measure your prescription and assess your suitability. We will then recommend contact lenses based on your lifestyle needs and preferences. After that, our friendly optometrists will guide you through the process of inserting contact lenses. We also show you how to clean and care for your contact lenses and provide easy step by step instructions.

We understand that inserting something into your eye can feel unnatural and scary, so if you’ve tried unsuccessfully before, give us the opportunity to make sure you get it right this time!
